The Annuario dei Migliori vini italiani 2023 (Yearbook of the Best Italian Wines 2023) by the well-known food and wine critic Luca Maroni, which brings together the best of national production, recognises an excellence of the Sicilian territory: the new wine 'Etta Focu' by Cantine Paolini of Marsala.It is a blend of Syrah and Perricone that stands out for its warm and enveloping personality, perfect for accompanying full-bodied dishes such as braised meats, and that scored 98 points out of ninety-nine in Luca Maroni's analysis.To be awarded such a high score by the expert, Etta Focu was convincing in three categories in Luca Maroni's eyes: consistency, balance and integrity. A high consistency results in a wine that is rich in colour, aroma and flavour, and is characterised by an important density. Integrity concerns the purity and freshness of the wine. This means that there should be no abnormal aromas in relation to the grape varieties or the wine-making process, and that the wine should have no defects. In general, the faster and more precisely a wine is produced, the higher its integrity will be.
