Gin Mare - 70cl

Distilled in Spain by the Giro family, now in its third generation, Gin Mare is inspired by the Mediterranean sea and features five main botanicals: Italian basil, Greek thyme, Turkish rosemary, Spanish citrus fruits and Catalan olives. The intention is to reproduce the authentic Mediterranean taste of Italy and, to do this, the distillation process takes place in a 250-litre discontinuous copper pot still, specially created for this type of processing. A new, different and totally natural gin that will take you back to the sea and fond memories, sip after sip.A story that spans four generations of distillers, the last of which is represented by the brothers Marc and Manuel Girò, who in just 10 years have revolutionised the world of gin by conceiving it with a completely Mediterranean face. Gin Mare is produced at the distillery in Vilanova I La Geltrú, an old fishing village located between the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorada, a few kilometres from Barcelona. Here there is a small, deconsecrated church that, instead of an altar, has given way to a marvellous 250-litre Florentine still, specially created for this process. Using a discontinuous distillation process, Gin Mare is created by macerating a careful selection of botanicals, each of which is steeped for 24-48 hours in 200 litres of neutral cereal spirit and water. The citrus fruits, on the other hand, are macerated for a year. Five botanicals in particular mark the Mediterranean profile of Gin Mare, each from a different country: basil from Italy, thyme from Turkey, rosemary from Greece, citrus from Spain and the Arbequina olive, a typical cultivar from Catalonia. Alongside the classic juniper, coriander and cardamom, these Mediterranean scents create a gin with typical 'Mare Nostrum' scents and memories. The aesthetics of the bottle itself, with its blue and white reflections, seems to encapsulate the magical influence of the Mediterranean, hinting at an unconventional taste experience.
